Within the DMEPOS sector, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) classifies patient location by zip code. There are four categories: Competitive Bidding Area, Non-Rural, Rural and Non-contiguous. What a supplier is going to be reimbursed could be dramatically different depending on the zip code that a given patient falls in.

The following maps utilize advanced mapping software which categorizes tens of thousands of zip codes in each state to its corresponding category. Additionally, these maps include locations of Critical Access Hospitals in each state. CMS updates zip codes on a quarterly basis, which can be found on their website.
