OPGA Names 2024 O&P Woman of the Year

Sheryl Sachs has been selected as the O&P Woman of the Year for 2024
Sheryl Sachs, MSPO, Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO) with Dankmeyer, Inc., has been selected as the 2024 O&P Woman of the Year. Orthotic Prosthetic Group of America (OPGA) presented the award to Sheryl during the AOPA National Assembly on Friday, Sept. 13 at 9:50 a.m., at the Product Preview Theater (PPT) in the exhibit hall.
“I am honored to have been chosen as the 2024 [O&P] Woman of the Year," said Sheryl. "I hope that my passion and commitment to the O&P profession serves as an inspiration and motivation to other women to make sure their voices are heard, and we have the power to make positive change a reality in and beyond O&P.”
Sheryl is a dedicated Orthotist-Prosthetist from Maryland. She is a proud graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a dual degree in Communication (BA) and Kinesiological Sciences (BS). She attended the P&O Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she earned her Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MSPO). Sheryl's professional path has been intertwined with Dankmeyer Inc., where she completed her residency and now works as a Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist (CPO) and residency mentor. Beyond her clinical role, Sheryl has previously taken on mentorship role within the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists' (AAOP) mentoring program. She is also a member of AOPA's Government Relations Committee, and she is the lead advocate for Maryland's "So EveryBODY Can Move" initiative. Additionally, Sheryl serves on the NCOPE Board of Director's Executive Committee and is the chair of NCOPE's Residency Standards Committee.

The O&P Woman of the Year award, sponsored by Össur and presented by OPGA, a division of VGM & Associates, is open to all women who work in the orthotic and prosthetic profession. A selection committee of four O&P professionals review nominations and select finalists by considering the nominees’ contributions throughout their careers to patients, the community, and the O&P profession.
