Frank Wasilewski, Vice President of Sales at Access, has been involved in making homes more accessible for people with mobility needs. His team’s passion for helping those facing challenges is evident in their work. One remarkable project they undertook was for an 11-year-old boy named Grayson Nicks, who was diagnosed with Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy.
Grayson faced significant challenges in his daily life due to his Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy. His loving parents took the initiative to create an accessible living space on the main level of their home. Despite their efforts, the financial burden prevented them from completing the room to reflect Grayson’s personality and interests fully. That’s when they turned to the Welcome Home Angel organization, which is how Frank learned about the project.
Welcome Home Angel is an organization that mirrors the compassionate objectives of the “Make-A-Wish” foundation but with a unique focus on home modifications. They aim to transform living spaces to better suit the needs of children with disabilities, enhancing their quality of life. In 2023, they expanded their reach by opening a new chapter in the Illinois area, demonstrating their commitment to aiding more families and children in need.
Moved by Grayson’s story, Frank Wasilewski and his team at Access took it upon themselves to fully fund this project. Every employee, along with subcontractors, volunteered their labor services. Additionally, all materials were generously donated. They meticulously crafted a personalized space for Grayson, complete with shelves, bookcases, and a dedicated area for his beloved hobby, building Legos. Check out this video from the project!
The addition of a ramp provided Grayson with a newfound sense of independence, allowing him to enter and exit his home without assistance.
When the Access team first met Grayson, his mobility was limited. However, the installation of the ramp and handrails marked a turning point, granting him the ability to move more freely around his home. This improvement was a significant milestone, setting the stage for future adaptations as his needs evolve.
The team at Access extended their efforts beyond Grayson’s room by also revamping his sister Scarlett’s room with a vibrant soccer theme. Seizing the opportunity while the family enjoyed a week-long vacation, the team dedicated their time and skills to ensure the entire project was completed, ready to welcome the family back to their newly transformed home.
The transformation of Grayson’s living space had a ripple effect, touching the hearts of all those involved. The project was self-funded by Frank’s team, showcasing their dedication not just to their craft but to the act of giving. It served as a powerful reminder to the team at Access of the impact that their work, kindness, and community service can have.
Community and Legacy
Frank Wasilewski’s philosophy extends beyond the immediate benefits of charitable work. He envisions a legacy built on ethical business practices and social responsibility. Through initiatives like their annual stairlift giveaway for veterans, Access has cemented its reputation as a company that not only excels in its field but also cares deeply about the well-being of its community. It’s heartwarming to see how Frank and his team transformed Grayson’s living space, making it more accessible and personalized. Their dedication to improving lives is commendable, and it serves as an inspiring example for others in the home access industry on how to build a business while also making a difference in their community.
We are so proud to have Frank and all at Access as Part of Something Bigger with VGM Live at Home!
