The Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women (ACBCYW) is now accepting nominations to create educational initiatives for young women diagnosed with breast cancer. These initiatives are intended to provide advice and guidance to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Assistant Secretary for Health, HHS and Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Guidance may be in the form of public and health care professional education, prevention research, social marketing, palliative care, and survivorship. The complete Charter of this committee can be found here.
Nominations will be accepted until March 12, 2021 as they look to fill 15 non-federal voting members who will be selected by the Director of the CDC. Chosen committee members, considered Special Government Employees (SGE), will be invited to serve overlapping terms of up to four years. Examples of those who would be considered for participation are individuals with expertise in breast cancer, disease prevention, survivorship, treatment, public health, and social marketing.
The committee also has designated non-voting representation from industry organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the Young Survival Coalition, the Tigerlily Foundation, FORCE, Bright Pink, Breastcancer.org, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, the National Patient Advocate Foundations, Sister’ Network, Susan G. Komen, and other organizations as designated.
The nomination process: Nominees must be a U.S. citizen who is not a full-time employee of the U.S. Government. Submissions should include a current curriculum vitae and at least one letter of recommendation from an individual not employed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
See the Federal Register notice for complete nomination information and address for submission.
Serving on this committee is an honor. We know that many of our EW members would have unique contributions that would benefit this committee. We encourage anyone who is willing to serve to nominate themselves for a committee position. You may also know of individuals in your community who would be great candidates. Please share with those individuals as well. Our goal should be to help provide the absolute best candidates for this committee since past, present, and future patients will all benefit!
